Registration Information

Embarking on an Outward Bound journey? No experience necessary! All you need is a spirit of adventure and a desire to learn. Our courses are challenging, exciting and fun, and not beyond the reach of anyone in average physical condition.

ENROLMENT FEES

To guarantee a spot on your chosen course, Outward Bound Canada charges a $100 non-refundable application fee and a non-refundable deposit, plus HST, if applicable. The deposit is applied towards the full cost of your course. Full tuition payment is required 60 days before your course start date.

Unlike most other wilderness schools, Outward Bound Canada supplies all the necessary gear you’ll need on your trip. This equipment includes canoes, kayaks, paddles, life jackets/PFDs, tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, First Aid equipment, sleeping pads, cooking and eating utensils, stoves, helmets, ropes, harnesses and tarps.

The Admissions Department will provide you with a comprehensive clothing list particular to your course. You only need to bring what is on the clothing list.

Enrolment fees do not include HST or transportation to and from the course location.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS

Ontario High School Credits
If you are a Grade 10 student, aged 15 or older, you are eligible for an Ontario High School senior-level credit when you successfully complete our programs that are 15+ days. Students outside Ontario taking the Ontario High School Credit option will need to gain approval from their school prior to course start in order to receive an equivalent credit in their home province. (Most schools have accepted the credit, including some American schools.) Courses on which High School credits are earned are subject to a $250 High School Credit fee, however, the entire course fees then become HST exempt. Call our Admissions Department for details.

BC External Credits
If you are a Grade 10 student, aged 15 or older, you are eligible to receive up to four British Columbia high school credits (UOB11) through the British Columbia External Course program, upon successful completion of our programs that are 17+ days. Courses on which High School credits are earned are subject to a $250 High School Credit fee, however, the entire course fees then become HST exempt. Call our Admissions Department for details.

Please note:
This website describes the courses we offer. We do our best to ensure the descriptions are accurate, but cannot guarantee all activities listed will take place. Every Outward Bound course is unique because of the participant group, Instructors, weather, and terrain. Due to fluctuations in course enrolment, certain courses may not be available, or you may end up in a non-co-ed course. Prices and dates are subject to change.

Outward Bound is committed to each participant’s health and safety. All Outward Bound courses are tobacco, alcohol and drug free. Instructors and participants are expected to abide by all program safety regulations.

Participant confirmation
Your enrolment in any Outward Bound course is confirmed only when we receive and approve all the completed forms, including a medical form and your full tuition payment. The confidential medical form will be included in your Welcome package. These forms help us ensure a safe Outward Bound experience for you.

If, after receiving your medical form, we think you should not participate in the course, we will refund all tuition payments made to Outward Bound. We cannot cover or refund costs of medical examinations or other expenses you incur while preparing to apply. Please do not book your travel arrangements until your acceptance is confirmed by the Admissions Department and your course will run.*

* Occasionally course cancellations may occur up to 14 days before the course start date if enrolment is low. Because of this, we do not advise you to book travel outside the 14 day mark. If you would like to book your travel sooner, we recommend you contact our Admissions Department to confirm your course is running.

REFUND POLICY AND CANCELLATION INSURANCE

Should you need to cancel or transfer, our refund policy reflects the fact that we incur most of the expenses of your course before you arrive. If you won’t be able to attend your course, please let us know as soon as possible as it is unlikely we can fill your spot at the last minute.

Payment Due

A $100 application fee and $500 non-refundable deposit is due upon registration. No spot will be held without the application fee and deposit.

The balance of your payment is due 60 days before the course starts.

Transfers

Changes to enrolment or transfers from one course to another are subject to a $25 administrative fee.

No transfer of your enrolment from one course to another can be accommodated 30 days or less before the course starts.

Refunds

The deposit and application fee is only refundable if Outward Bound Canada cancels your course.

If you provide written notice of your withdrawal more than 30 days before your course start date, all payments toward your course, less the deposit and application fee will be refunded.

No refund will be provided if you withdraw from a course 30 days or less before the course start date.

Early Departure or last-minute withdrawal

No refund will be made if a participant withdraws once the course has begun, fails to arrive for the course start, or is asked to leave the course.

Expenses for Uninsured Medical Evacuation or Transportation upon Withdrawal or Dismissal

There is a transportation fee charged for medical evacuations not covered by either provincial health care insurance or private health insurance as well as for students who withdraw or are asked to leave a course early.

IMPORTANT! Purchase Cancellation Insurance

Insurance may be purchased from many travel and/or insurance agencies to cover loss of funds if you need to withdraw from your course prior to the course start date (some restrictions may apply). We strongly recommend you protect your tuition investment by purchasing some form of cancellation insurance. Please note that most insurance companies require you to purchase insurance within 24 hours of your initial deposit.
