Northern Ontario 14-day Passages for Boys
During the transition from adolescence to adulthood, youth face unique challenges. This course provides a platform for the exploration of both the individual and the wilderness with a group of their peers of the same gender identity. No prior wilderness experience is required.
The youth will build on their resiliency and strength, building skills that they can bring back into their day-to-day lives. This course is designed to help youth explore what kind of people they want to become, teach them how to take charge of their lives and realize all they are capable of.
Outward Bound Canada’s Passages courses are developed in recognition that youth today often do not experience a clear rite of passage that takes them into adulthood. Each experience begins with a physical journey – stepping out of the comforts of day-to-day routines and into an environment that may be very new, adventurous and exciting, but also foreign and uncertain. Facing these changes helps to bring out new perspectives. Using the challenges of the course as a starting-point, our skilled instructors will teach these youth how to transfer the skills learned from the course to their lives at home. These important life skills include caring for oneself, taking responsibility for their choices, expressing their needs and opinions with confidence, and working with others. These courses are completed with youth in groups according to their gender identity to allow for a shared common experience between male or female-identifying groups. Non-binary youth are also welcome to join the group they feel best suits them as well as consider the LGBTQ2S+ expedition.
